With spring vastly approaching, I have slowly started collecting spring fashion pieces and seeking inspiration on what I want to add to my wardrobe. While thinking about new spring pieces, I thought to myself; while staring at a horse print blouse top I have laying on the ground, why not get inspiration from the Kentucky Derby, where the finest spring fashion is showcased! Now, I realize that the Kentucky Derby is still a few months away but I can get ideas from lasts years Kentucky Derby and keep an eye out on this year’s fashion when this year’s race happens.
Now, when I think of the Kentucky Derby, two words come to mind, Southern Belle. It is all about the Southern Belle style and if you have ever wanted a reason to release your inner Southern Belle, you can bet on Kentucky derby to be your perfect reason!
Now let us talk about the fashion, shall we!
Being that the Kentucky Derby happens during the spring, you will see lots of pastels and frilly dresses and even shorts or jeans. Of course, what fashion attire you see will all depend on where you plan to spend your day while at the Kentucky Derby (suites, grandstand, clubhouse, infield etc.).
Hats
We all know that the Kentucky Derby renowned for women in their large fancy, elegant hats. Did you know, that people believe wearing a hat to the Kentucky Derby is good luck!? Which is why the tradition of wearing them came about. There are no rules to what hat you can wear for a hat, but you will see most Women sporting any color wide-brimmed hat with flowers, bows, feathers, ribbons, etc. Just think Southern Belle when finding your perfect hat style.
Dresses
Just like hats, dresses are popular pieces to wear at the Derby. The type of dresses you will see will vary anywhere from sundresses to formal day suits. Picking your dress can depend on the hat you want to wear that day. If you have, a crazy exquisite-hat keep the dress simple and vice versa.
Shoes
Many people are wearing sexy high heels, but more often than not, they are carrying a pair of flats in their purse to change into. The weather is always unpredictable and with cobblestone pathways, having that back up pair of flats is necessary!
The Jewelry
Normally, I am a fan of statement piece of jewelry but the Derby is all about the hats so keep the jewelry to minimal, like pearls.
The Bag
Bring both a stylish little clutch for when you are placing bets or buying food and a tote to hold all your “just in case” items.
