Spruce Up Your Kitchen with the iPlant!

Add some green to your kitchen with the iPlant! As you have seen with my previous posts, I am always looking for things that are green-ish, and you know it’s a plus if it tastes good, too :) I was given the opportunity to review the iPlant, which is an indoor sprout garden that easily and organically grows a variety of sprouts right on your kitchen counter! It doesn’t require anything but a plug, water, and a few days time (not yours). No sunlight or continuous feeding/watering is necessary, and the outcome is phenomenal. This is a simple, yet creative way to help you and/or your kiddos eat healthy and learn the details of growing plants. In a mere 2-6 days healthy, flourishing sprouts grow right before your eyes with a self-watering system with its own timer.

The steps are simple:

  1. Take the amount of seeds advised on the back of the sprout packets and scatter them evenly into the mesh trays.
  2. Set the mesh trays on a plate of water overnight to thoroughly soak the seeds.
  3. Fill the bottom half of the iPlant up to the top line with water.
  4. Place the trays into the top half of the iPlant and connect it into place on top of the bottom half.
  5. Do the same to the second tier with the first if applicable.
  6. Flip the switch and watch daily for your sprouts to grow!!!

At first I was a bit skeptical when it began its automatic watering process. It seemed as though it was only spraying the area closest to the center (like a bad dishwasher), but all of the sprouts grew perfectly even, so it turned out great. I had no idea how simple it was—or how much fun it would be coming back to check on it each day to see the constant change. I planted the Broccoli sprouts and the Salad Sprout Blend but there are also the Alfalfa and Radish Sprout packets as well.

Check out the progress each day:

The sprouts can be a great science project for the kiddos or just a quick, easy way to have something extra on your sandwiches for lunch. Either way, with it costing literally a couple pennies a day in electricity, you’re saving money, time and carbs/calories by growing your own healthy and yummy snack! They’ve got that perfect crunchiness with fresh bursts of flavor… what would you use it for? Head on over to Frontgate, or better yet– the Outdoor Chef Store who are currently the only retailers who carry this awesome little piece of indoor nature.

The Outdoor Chef Store is fantastic, and provides so much more than simply seed replacements– take a look at the EcoQue!

Check out this tasty looking gyro sandwich made with avacado, onions, and sprouts!
