My hair is very important to me and I know that for a lot of women it is very important to them as well. Often times when our hair doesn’t look good we tend to have a bad day because we don’t feel our best. In order to have great hair you have to treat it with care. I pride myself on my hair and how healthy it has become in the last year. I use to always use the cheap drugstore brands for hair care and never understood why I couldn’t get my hair to grow out and why it never looked very healthy. Now I am not saying that all drugstore brands are crap, there are a few good ones but its rare.

It was not until l began researching the common ingredients found in hair care products that I realized why cheap drugstore products (even high end products) were not working for my hair. The two top reasons why they were not working were because they had sulfate in them and where not pH balanced. I had no idea what sulfate was until about a year ago and upon finding out I checked all my hair care products and stopped using all that contained any type of sulfate.

Why is sulfate bad you ask? Sulfate is  the informal name for a group of cleansing ingredients called alkyl sulfates, which are amongst the most irritating ingredients commonly found in personal care products. Ammonium lauryl sulfate is the most strongly irritant, followed by sodium lauryl sulfate. They are typically used as an inexpensive detergent or degreaser and have been found to dry out the skin and hair and even cause irritation. No wonder my hair never felts soft after I washed it, all the sulfate was drying out my hair!

Now why is it so important for hair products to be pH balanced? Well, simply because pH balanced and stable products are key for optimum hair color retention. Human skin and hair resides in the pH 4.5-5.5 range, but most products on the market are pH 7 or greater. In addition to leaving the hair feeling dry and brittle, the higher pH in these products raises the cuticle and causes hair color to fade shampoo after shampoo. The lower pH level protects hair cuticles, leaves hair more manageable and can help protect hair color from fading.

I use about 4 different hair brands for my shampoo and conditioners. They are all sulfate free and work extremely well. I use 4 different hair brands because I rotate my products every time I shower. Rotating your products is good for your hair because it wont get use to the products to were they become ineffective,  just like with medicines.  One of my favorite brands to use is a salon brand called ENJOY. ENJOY is sold exclusively in salons and has become the new line that my sisters and I use in our professional Salon.

ENJOY proudly chooses to be sulfate free and chooses to provide long lasting color and complement hair’s natural pH balance, they work hard to insure that their products are pH 4.5-6.0. They also conduct extensive bake tests on the line to guarantee pH stability. I have been using Enjoy hair products for a year now and love all the products I have tried which is why we made the switch to carry it in our salon for the back bar and resale.

Today I am going to review the hydrating shampoo and conditioner. I cant tell you enough how great this set works and the smell is so luxurious, I just love smelling it! The luxury Shampoo and conditioner have a very concentrated formula making it last 4 times loner than regular shampoos and conditioners. A little bit goes a long way, and the lather is thick, rich, and soothing. This is my favorite sulfate-free shampoo to use because it has such a great lather to it and cleans really well without stripping the hair. I have thing to medium thick hair and do not have any issues with it weighing my hair down at all. I can say that my hair is growing longer as this product keeps it in such good condition that I do not have breakage.

To try and give you an idea of how well the products lather and look I took photos of the first person we used the shampoo and conditioner on in our salon:

Hair dried after using the luxury shampoo and conditioner. This particular client just died her hair bleach blonde this past month and decided to go back brunette about 3-4 weeks later. This is right after dying her hair back brunette and the first time using these products on her hair. She has a great shine to her hair and it looks healthy especially after bleaching it and then dying it back brunette within the last month!

The ENJOY Sulfate-Free Luxury Shampoo retails for $24.14 10 oz (USD) and the ENJOY Luxury Conditioner is available in 10 oz size retailing for $27.84 (USD). Some salons may have these product cheaper depending on were you get them. Our salon carries them for $18.00. They last for several months so to me its worth the small investment to have healthy hair.
